C O M P A N Y :.
The
Asia Piano Companys a relatively
new and small family business run by two people, namely
Mr Leonard Soh and Mr Soh Chee Wai (call him
"Ah Wee" as he is affectionately refered
to by friends and relatives.
Starting
the business from scratch in an old, humble factory
warehouse in Hillview Terrace, we have recently moved
to it's homely showroom in the Singapore Shopping
Centre as of May 2003.
Here
at Asia Piano, we offer an alternative kind of customer
service. Our main aim is customer education on pianos
(for example, selecting a good piano for yourself,
how the piano works, what to look out for in an old
piano, servicing the piano and how not to get ripped
off.)
We
do not intend to upsize our business to the likes
of some major music stores but keep it small, quiet
and simple. A great advantage of doing this is that
we can concentrate more on the needs of the customer.
You
may not splurge on an expensive high end european
piano, but buying any kind of piano is still a sum
of money by the thousands and it is of utmost importance
that we as a team, help you select the best piano
that will suit your needs, likes, and budget.
Do
browse our webpage, which will describe our various
products, services and education facilities, described
in detail of course; Lots of text so make sure you
stare at the greenery outside your window as recommended
after reading this for a substantial amount of time!
:)
Enjoy
your stay!

People of the Asia
Piano Company - who are we?
Leonard
Soh Eng Kiat is a Master Piano Technician
and Piano Consultant who formerly served with Yamaha
where he tuned and serviced nearly 5 pianos a day
for over 20 years! Having trained at the Yamaha Piano
production factory under the watchful eye of master
piano artisans in Hamamatsu, Japan, he has since had
lots of experience in tuning and servicing various
kinds of pianos, ranging from the smallest of spinets
(hard to service because of it's "hidden"
piano action) to the mammoth concert grands of today.
Tuning
and servicing a piano isn't just a laborious layman
job, but an elevated artform and an exacting science
that has to come into perfect balance, and not to
mention lots of patience! Leonard realises this and
treats every piano he services with loving care, going
towards what the customer wants, and this is what
makes him stand out from the crowd of piano tuners.
Being
a strong headed person, he was also responsible for
the miniscule revolution in the Yamaha Technical Service
Centre quite a while ago, where he managed to persuade
the manager there to revise the payment scheme towards
piano technicians serving with the Service Centre,
thereby enabling Piano Technicians to earn nearly
5 times their regular monthly income of what was previously
around $850 for newbies.
Where
most business minded piano companies in Singapore
refuse you when there is a piano in need of some attention,
be it major or minor, Leonard is your man, and he
is one of the few piano technicians in this region
that will swiftly get the job done to the highest
of standards.
Amery
Reuben started playing the piano at the age
of 3 where he was spotted by a local teacher as having
a great potential. Having studied with her for 4 years,
he was then refered to Russian professor Vladamir
Gurov for further training, where he finally got the
Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade
8 at the age of 12 and subsequently the Licentiate
Diploma of the ABRSM and a Licentiate Diploma in composition
from the Trinity College of Music, London.
Upon graduation from the Sydney
Conservatory of Music with a major in Piano Performance,
he has since been performing and arranging music for
concert invites in Sydney, Malaysia and more recently,
the USA.
Latest music (besides his wide
range of classical repertoire ranging from a barouqe-ish
Bach and classical/romantic Beethoven-Chopin-Rachmaninoff,
to the heights of modern music from Rautavaara, Alexander
Tcherepnin and Takemitsu) includes his own arrangements
of Astor Piazolla/various latin american composers
tangos for solo/two pianos, the critically acclaimed
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Variations on a local
Singaporean Theme, and a re-arrangement of Ketelby's
Persian in the Market.
A self taught singer in his
earlier experiences, Amery has an eye for choral music
and solo vocals, supplemented by a LRSM in voice as
well. He has sung in many high profile choirs both
locally and overseas, few of which include the Singapore
Youth Choir, Sydney Philharmonic Chorus and the Consortium
of Chamber Singers. Amery founded his first choir,
the "Singers of the South" comprised mainly
of students from a few universities in Sydney, where
he has passed the baton on to a talented Sydney based
choral conductor before returning back to Singapore.
Here, he is in the process of setting up his own choir
while training his vocal students extensively, taking
up the role of a teacher/performer/conductor full
time.
